Fruit & Flowers

Fruit & Flowers
6x6"
Oil on board
$75 - available

I painted this still life from a photo as a Daily paintworks challenge. It was fun with lots of  challenges in getting drawing and color to work out. It was also interesting to see everyone's different take in the same image.  It emphasizes how we all handle paint a little bit differently and makes me appreciate other peoples' paintings when i've struggled to paint the exact same thing.

Chocolate box

Oil on canvas
$75 - available

Happy Valentine's Day!  I painted one of the classic Valentine's Day presents -- a box of chocolates.  I chose to show the box of chocolates open with the box top askew and the red cellophane wrapper underneath the box was wrapped. Between all the red, shinyness and transparency, this turned out to be quite the challenge.  The bonus of painting chocolate is that you get to eat you subject when you're done.

Grocery shopping

Grocery shopping
8x8"
oil on panel
Available - $75

This is a painting of 2 casually dressed people mulling over the choices in the case.  I like this subject a lot.  There is a lot of interesting stuff at the grocery store.  I also am drawn to the way people act, contemplate and interact with the products at the market.  I've certainly invested a lot of time exploring the supermarket shelves and deciding which item to buy.

Tea Time

Tea Time
8"x8"
oil on canvas panel
Available - $50

This is a painting of my cup of chai tea steeping. I love chai tea. After steeping, I'd add some almond milk and sweetener and enjoy. Despite the small canvas, the zoomed in view makes the cup of tea larger than life.  If only it were really that big.

I am trying out some canvas boards.  I'm not sure I like painting on the texture.  I'll use up the ones I bought, but I am still hunting for the perfect painting surface.

Under easel

Under easel
8"x8"
oil on board
Available - $75

This is a painting of one of my dogs, Izzy, staring up at me from underneath my easel.  She is giving me sad eyes in an effort to steal my attention . . . and maybe some treats.

This is my first attempt at creating small daily paintings. I've been looking at and inspired by the Daily Painters movement for quite a while. A couple weeks ago I started reading Carol Marine's book Daily Paintings.  It is time to stop lurking and start doing.  I am excited, but nervous.
